Columbus,OH : Road rage led to crash on may, monday 8th 2017
A rollover crash that closed the Warren bypass for almost two hours Monday night may have been sparked by what the investigator called “a road-rage type incident” spurred by a man driving a young boy with a head injury to the hospital.
The Warren post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded about 9 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash after a Saturn Vue rolled over, landing on its side near the state Route 82 / Larchmont Avenue NE interchange.
Patrol Sgt. Daniel Jesse said he continues to investigate the accident and is expecting to file charges sometime this week. Jesse said he doesn’t know at this point if one or both drivers will be charged.
The crash happened at 8:56 p.m. after a 2008 Ford F-150, driven by a 26-year-old Warren man, and the Saturn SUV driven by a 21-year-old Warren man, were both eastbound on the bypass when the two drivers began engaging in a “road-rage type incident,” the report states.
After passing the Larchmont Avenue exit, the two vehicles collided, sending the SUV spinning into the median, where it struck the dividing concrete barrier and overturned.
Jesse said he will not identify the drivers or the boy until the investigation is complete.
The report said the F-150 carried three passengers, including a boy who had received a head injury at home. Jesse did not say how the boy sustained the injury but said the F-150 driver was the boy’s father.
The boy was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital with a head injury, a Trumbull County 911 log sheet reports. No updated condition report on the child was available.
No other injuries were reported by the patrol. The overturned SUV carried three people, including the driver, the report states.
The 911 log sheet states the crash blocked both lanes, but the patrol report states the westbound lanes of the bypass were closed for nearly two hours.
Bazetta police and fire crews assisted with the investigation and helped direct traffic and get the lanes cleared, the patrol report states.
