Kersey, PA : Austin Jay Miller, 22, and Dallan Richard Pangallo, 21, died after a two-vehicle crash in Fox Township on Wednesday, February 24, 2016
Around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department and Fox Township Ambulance were dispatched to 315 Toby Road (Route 2003) in Fox Township for a two-vehicle fatal crash and multiple patients, according to Ridgway-based state police.
According to state police, Austin Jay Miller, 22, of Johnsonburg, was driving a 2000 Dodge Neon east on Toby Road while a 2008 GMC Acadia, driven by 43-year-old Andrew Jerome Gahr, of St. Marys, was traveling west on the same route.
Miller lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a left curve in the road. The Dodge Neon traveled into the westbound lane and into the path of Gahr’s vehicle. Gahr, police say, swerved to his right in an attempt to avoid impact, however, the front of Miller’s vehicle struck the front of Gahr’s vehicle.
During impact, both Miller and his passenger, Dallan Richard Pangallo, 21, of Kersey, were ejected from the Neon.
Pangallo was pronounced dead at the scene by Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio. Miller was pronounced dead at Penn Highlands Elk.
Diana KM Gahr, 69, of Kersey; Mary Lee Deprator, 64, of St. Marys; Leslie Marie Gahr, 42, of St. Marys; a 4-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, passengers in the Gahr vehicle were also taken to Penn Highlands Elk by ambulance for treatment.
Medical transport helicopters were unable to fly as a result of weather conditions.
Toby Road, including Thompson Hill in Fox Township, between Dagus Mines and Route 219 was closed for several hours.
The road remained closed as PennDOT crews awaited tow trucks to remove the severely damaged vehicles.
Also assisting at the scene, according to state police, was the Elk County District Attorney.
