Ocala,FL : One killed in two-vehicle crash in McIntosh on April, Thursday 5th 2018
One person was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash along U.S. 441 on Thursday.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers, who investigated the wreck, told the Star-Banner that two of the three people who were in separate vehicles were transported to the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville for treatment.
One of them, Lisa Dudley, 49, of Reddick, was pronounced deceased at 6:56 p.m. The other person, Joseph McCullough, 76, of Reddick, was listed in serious condition. Troopers were dispatched to the call shortly before 6:30 p.m.
Both McCullough and Dudley were traveling in the same vehicle, a 1997 Honda Civic, at the time of the crash. Dudley was not wearing a seatbealt and was partially ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 1998 GMC truck driven by Justin Moore, 35, Ocala, suffered minor injuries, officials said.
The roadway was blocked for several hours.
FHP officials said a pickup truck was traveling northbound on U.S. 441 and stopped in the median at Northwest 193rd Street to make a U-turn onto the opposite direction of U.S. 441.
The Civic, that was traveling southbound in the outside lane, was hit when the GMC turned left and into its path.
Upon impact, troopers said the Civic overturned on its roof.
Authorities said the driver of the truck had stopped at a gas station, drove from there and attempted to make a U-turn to travel into the opposite direction.
The death is the second for the week, and the 20th since the beginning of the year. This time last year, they were 18 deaths. In 2017, 91 people died in traffic-related fatalities.
