Las Vegas, NV : Hailey man killed in car head-on collision Highway 93 Las Vegas on Monday May 23, 2016.
A Hailey man died due to injuries sustained in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 93 just north of Las Vegas on Monday night.
Geronimo Eno Schubert, 36, was southbound on the highway in a Ford Ranger around 9:30 p.m. when he drifted into the northbound lane, collided with a Kenworth tractor-trailer and spun off onto the highway’s left shoulder.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Schubert is believed to have died on impact. His truck also caught fire, consuming the engine and passenger compartments. The driver of the Kenworth wasn’t injured in the accident.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and are awaiting a toxicology report on Schubert.
On Thursday, the Clark County Coroner’s Office confirmed Schubert’s cause of death to be blunt-force trauma. Schubert was a well-known figure in the Wood River Valley. He worked for Hayden Beverage in Ketchum and could be frequently seen delivering to businesses throughout the area.
Schubert also worked part-time as a bartender at Lefty’s Bar & Grill in Ketchum, where his smile was a common sight for patrons.
Fellow Lefty’s bartender Jonathan Diem, 25, said Thursday that he is still trying to cope with Schubert’s passing. He said Schubert was on his way to Las Vegas to visit a seriously ill friend when the accident occurred.
He was the most generous guy,” Diem said. “He always had your back. He was a fun, happy guy that everyone loved.”
Diem said he had agreed to cover a shift for Schubert at Lefty’s on Tuesday when he heard the news of Schubert’s death.
