Olney, IL : One kills two-vehicle crash on Friday September 2 2016

A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred at 7 p.m. Friday on Ill. 130 at Millers Grove Lane.

John M. Austin, 42, Charleston, and a passenger, Sarah Fields, 40, Ashmore, were southbound on Ill. 130 in a 2001 Ford when the truck’s driveshaft broke, causing the driver to lose control.A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred at 7 p.m. Friday on Ill. 130 at Millers Grove Lane.
John M. Austin, 42, Charleston, and a passenger, Sarah Fields, 40, Ashmore, were southbound on Ill. 130 in a 2001 Ford when the truck’s driveshaft broke, causing the driver to lose control. The truck slid sideways into the northbound lane and struck a northbound 2013 Ford on the middle of the driver’s side. The truck driver abd passenger were not seriously injured.
The driver of the van, Andrew Helmuth, 71, Arthur was flown from the scene to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. One passenger in the van, Verna M. Yoder, 50, Arthur was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other passengers in the van, Howard Yoder, 54, Arthur, Velma D. Yoder, 22, Arthur, and LaWayne Mast, 21, Tuscola, were treated at Richland Memorial Hospital.

Assisting Illinois State Police were the Olney Fire Department and rescue squad, plus Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Olney Police Department, and RMH Ambulance Service.
