An 87-year-old Hastings, Nebraska, woman was killed Monday morning in a three-vehicle crash south of Lincoln, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said.
Laverda Baehr was pronounced dead at the crash scene, the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
James Rivers III, 26, of Beatrice, Nebraska, suffered minor injuries in the collision and was treated at Bryan Medical Center and released, according to the sheriff’s office.
The crash occurred about 7 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 77 and Hickman Road. East-west traffic has a stop sign, while north-south traffic has the right-of-way.
Baehr was driving a 1998 Ford Taurus west on Hickman Road. She pulled into the Highway 77 intersection as a 2000 Lincoln Town Car was traveling north, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Lincoln Town Car, driven by Rivers, collided with the driver’s side of Baehr’s Taurus. The Lincoln then struck a 2012 GMC pickup stopped in the southbound turn lane of Highway 77 to turn east onto Hickman Road. The pickup’s driver, 64-year-old Jim Jinings of Macedonia, Iowa, did not report injuries.
The three drivers were alone in their vehicles and were using seat belts, the sheriff’s office said. Alcohol use was not considered a factor.
