One person died in a fiery single-vehicle wreck Wednesday afternoon, Oregon State Police said.
The crash was reported just before 4:30 p.m. on Highway 126E. Emergency crews arrived to find a 2001 Ford Explorer in flames, state police said in a news release Thursday.
The driver, whose identity had not been confirmed Thursday afternoon, had been traveling east on Highway 126E when the vehicle left the road, crashed into a large boulder on the highway’s south shoulder and caught fire.
Both lanes of Highway 126E were closed for about an hour before one lane was reopened to traffic.
State police were assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation Incident Response, McKenzie Fire and Rescue, U.S. Forest Service and Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
More information about the identity of the driver and suspected cause of the crash will be released as it becomes available.
