Fairfield,CA : 1 dead in reported Fairfield gunfight; shooter at large on August, Monday 28th 2017
A flat tire appears to be the cause of an early morning crash Monday on westbound Interstate 80 west of Lagoon Valley Road, which also blocked one lane on the eastbound side of the highway and snarled traffic for several hours, the California Highway Patrol reports.
It was one of two significant crashes Monday on I-80. The second occurred seven hours later in Fairfield.
In the earlier crash, the driver of a Toyota Corolla was westbound at about 5 a.m. when a tire went flat. The driver lost control of the car and hit a box delivery van, which careened toward the center median, crashed through the metal guardrail and came to rest on the inside lane of the eastbound traffic, the CHP reports.
The driver of the van complained of pain and was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance, the CHP said.
The names of those involved in the crash were not available, the CHP said.
The second crash took place sometime after noon on westbound I-80 south of West Texas Street.
The CHP did not have details on the crash, which involved a big rig that ended up being tipped onto its side, an a recreational vehicle, apparently towing a car, which ended up upside down.
