Middletown, R.I : Tiverton man killed in motorcycle crash on Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown on Midnight Wednesday, June 18, 2014

David Munafo, 47, of Michaels Lane, Tiverton, died when he crashed his motorcycle on Aquidneck Avenue early Thursday morning, police reported.

Just after midnight, Munafo was riding his 1988 Harley Davidson Sportster north on Aquidneck Avenue when he struck a guardrail on the curve of the road between Wolcott and Prospect avenues, according to a report filed by Officer Sean Twomey.

Munafo came to rest in the northbound lane of Aquidneck Avenue. His motorcycle continued on and went off the road just north of Prospect Avenue, police reported. Aquidneck Avenue is also Rhode Island Route 138A.

No one else was on the motorcycle with Munafo, and there were no other vehicles involved, police reported.

Munafo was not wearing a helmet, police said.

Medical personnel with the Middletown Fire Department declared Munafo dead at the scene, according to police.
