Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
Four people were hurt in a two-vehicle accident on the Cross Valley Expressway/Route 309 in Plains Twp. on Friday afternoon. The accident happened at about 2:45 p.m. on Route 309 South near the on-ramp to Interstate 81, according to Plains Twp. Fire Capt. Charles Krommes. The accident involved a minivan and a passenger car, Krommes said. Emergency crews had to use the Jaws of Life to free three people from one of the vehicles, but a report that someone had been ejected from a vehicle proved to be unfounded, he said. The four people from the two vehicles were taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Krommes said. Traffic backed up on Route 309 near the accident scene as emergency responders worked to help the injured. State police at Wyoming are investigating the cause of the accident, Krommes said. Responding agencies included Plains Twp. police and firefighters, state police and ambulance crews from Plains Twp., Nanticoke and Slocum Twp.
