POLK COUNTY, FL : Davenport man struck killed by SUV in Polk County on Friday, 30th August 2024

A pedestrian was fatally struck by an SUV while he walked across a road Friday night in Polk County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 8:43 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Sanders Road, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 41-year-old Davenport man — was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck by a Nissan Rogue being driven south on U.S. 27 by a 47-year-old Winter Haven man. The SUV had a green light and the Davenport man was described as “improperly walking across the highway,” the report states.

The Davenport man died at the scene of the crash, troopers said.
