Terre Haute, IN : Police ID victims of I-70 crash on Sunday, February 26th 2017
Illinois State Police on Sunday identified two New York residents as the victims of a fatal collision between two semi-trailer trucks on Interstate 70.
Khcicha Gogoladze, 51, of Brooklyn and Ivan Koudla, 60, of Glens Falls, were killed shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday when a truck Gogoladze was driving struck the rear of another tractor-trailer and caught fire, police said.
The other semi had slowed to a near stop because of an earlier accident at the 135-mile marker near Martinsville, Illinois. The driver of that rig, James Weaver, 49, of Springfield, Missouri, was not hurt.
The crash resulted in the closure of the eastbound lanes of the interstate for a 17-mile stretch between Casey and Martinsville with traffic detoured onto two-lane U.S. 40.
