Las Vegas, NV : 47-year-old traffic officer injured in SUV crash on Desert Inn Road on Monday, March 9, 2015

A Las Vegas cop is recovering after he rear-ended an SUV and was thrown from the police motorcycle that he was driving.

Last Vegas police said the 47-year-old traffic officer was in a marked 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle around 5 p.m. Monday when he crashed into a 2015 Hyundai Tucson on Desert Inn Road, west of Tenaya Way.

The vehicles were going east on Desert Inn Road in the center lane when the SUV driven by a 25-year-old Las Vegas woman slowed down for a yellow light.

The officer was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway.

Police said the officer was hospitalized but his condition is not life-threatening.

The woman also suffered minor injuries.

Police are investigating but have not named the officer.
