Honolulu, HI: Motorcyclist injured in Nimitz Hwy. crash on Wednesday, July 29th 2015
Honolulu police have reopened all lanes of Nimitz Highway following a motorcycle crash.The crash occurred at around 9 a.m. at the Waiakamilo Road intersection while the highway was still coned off for the morning rush hour.According to police, a motorcycle was heading west in the HOV lane when a van driven by a 21-year-old man made a left turn into its path.The 31-year-old motorcyclist crashed into the van and was initially taken to the hospital in critical condition.He has since improved and is now listed in serious condition, police said.The road was officially closed in both directions at Waiakamilo Road at around 10:07 a.m.Then at 10:23 a.m. the eastbound lanes were reopened and all lanes were reopened by 10:48 a.m.At around the same time, power was cut to roughly 310 customers in the area.Hawaiian Electric says that outage was caused by a separate crash on Puuhale Road.Power was fully restored by 9:50 a.m.
