SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY : Car driver injured in highway collision with state snowplow on Thursday, December 22nd 2016

State transportation officials are reminding motorists to keep a safe distance from snowplows after one of the agency’s vehicles was hit by a car on an upstate New York highway, injuring the car’s driver and snarling commuter traffic.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of the Adirondack Northway (Interstate 87) at Exit 15 in Saratoga Springs. Department of Transportation officials say a car slammed into a DOT snowplow. Emergency crews had to remove the car’s roof to remove the injured driver, who’s being treated at an Albany hospital.
The crash closed two of the three southbound lanes until around 1 p.m.
While state police were investigating the crash, a vehicle crashed into a trooper car parked along the highway. No one was injured.
It was snowing when the car hit the snowplow, but the cause of the crash is being investigated.
