DELAND, FL : One man was killed and another was seriously injured after a head-on crash in Volusia County on Sunday, August 13, 2017

The Florida Highway Patrol says one man was killed and another was seriously injured after a head-on crash in Volusia County Sunday afternoon.

It happened on Woodland Boulevard, near Mercers Fernery Road, in DeLand at around 2 p.m., according to investigators.

Troopers say a 38-year-old man, driving a Chevy Impala, was heading southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic before hitting a Nissan SUV head-on.

They say the driver of the Impala was killed and the 50-year-old man driving the SUV was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers say it’s unknown why the car was traveling the wrong way, but the investigation is on-going.

The name of the man who was killed has not been released.
