Bennington, VT : At least one severe injury in a three-car crash on Route 7 in front of the Park Lawn Cemetery on Friday, July 15, 2016

At least one person received life-threatening injuries in a three-car crash Friday on Route 7 in front of the Park Lawn Cemetery.

Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette said that at approximately 4:30 p.m. a black Kia with Florida registration plates was driving north on Route 7. Witnesses say it was moving faster than the speed limit. Doucette said at the scene that it appears the Kia made contact with a vehicle in the southbound lane, causing that car to lose control and go off the west side of the road where it flipped over.

The Kia continued on and entered the southbound lane where it collided head-on with another vehicle.

Doucette said the male driver of the Kia was found by Bennington Police to be not breathing and without a pulse. After helping to extract him from the vehicle, members of the Bennington Rescue Squad treated him and transported him to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Five people in total were involved in the crash, among them two children. There is no information on the extent of their injuries, if any, at this time.

Bennington Fire Department, Bennington Rural Fire Department, and Bennington County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.

Both lanes of Route 7 were closed in that area.

The crash was still under investigation Friday afternoon. Police said they would release more information later.
