Cullman teen killed in Colbert County accident

The Alabama Department of Public Safety says a teen from Cullman was killed on Sunday morning after being involved in a traffic accident near Muscle Shoals.According to troopers, 19-year-old Jesse Eugene Ayers was riding in a 2006 Ford Focus driven by 22-year-old Stephen Wade Mitchell on Colbert County 77 around 1 a.m. when the accident happened. The vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a culvert and came to rest upside down in a small stream.Ayers and Mitchell were both pronounced dead at the scene. Neither victim was wearing a seatbelt. Investigators believe speed to have been a factor in the accident.
