South Topeka, KS : Topeka woman injured in crash on Interstate 470 on the Kansas Turnpike in south Topeka on Sunday, 9th September 2018

A woman was hospitalized Sunday night following a rear-end collision on Interstate 470 on the Kansas Turnpike in south Topeka, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 9:07 p.m. Sunday at mile marker 178.4 on eastbound Interstate 470.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2015 Kia Soul had slowed for an emergency vehicle in the area when it was rear-ended by a 2014 Acura ILX.

The driver of the Kia, Rhonda Theel, 52, of Topeka, was reported injured. The patrol said Theel was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital. The patrol said Theel was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Acura, Blake Hiestand, 16, of Topeka, was reported uninjured. The patrol said Hiestand was wearing a seat belt.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles, according to the patrol.
