ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL : St. Johns County deputy injured in motorcycle crash on July, Friday 14th 2017
A St. Johns County deputy was seriously injured when his department motorcycle crashed Friday afternoon, according to a St. Johns Fire and Rescue spokesman.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Deputy Anthony DeLeo was going west on State Road 210 near Cimarrone Boulevard just after 2:30 p.m. when his BMW left the road and struck a tree. Deleo, 49, was thrown off the bike and struck a concrete utility pole.
DeLeo was flown by air ambulance to UF Health Jacksonville. At last check, he was listed in serious condition but expected to survive.
Authorities said DeLeo was an experienced officer from New York who was hired the the Sheriff's Office three years ago. He is husband and father, and his family has been notified.
Kevin Kelshaw, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, said DeLeo was on duty when the wreck occurred.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with DeLeo's medical expenses as he continues to recover.
