Rockville, MD: 21-year-old Montgomery County man died and two days after his car crashed on Saturday, 15th November 2014
A 21-year-old Montgomery County man died Monday, two days after his car crashed as he fled from police, authorities said.
The man was identified by county police as Annal Upadhyaya of Gaithersburg. Police said he was ejected from his car when it crashed Saturday on Aspen Hill Road.
The crash culminated a chain of events that began about 9 p.m. Saturday when a county officer spotted an unoccupied car in a fire lane at the Aspen Hill shopping center on Connecticut Avenue, according to police.
When the driver returned, the officer determined that his license had been suspended and that he could not legally drive. The officer, police said, called for a tow truck.
When the truck arrived, the driver received permission from the officer to retrieve his cellphone from the car. But after getting into the car, police said, he drove off at high speed.
The officer tried to stop the car but lost sight of it on Aspen Hill Road. When police found the vehicle, it was lying on its side just west of Marianna Drive. The motorist, who was unconscious on a sidewalk, was taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.
Police said it appeared that the car was westbound and rounding a curve when it began to overturn. It struck two poles and came to rest against a parked car.
