Authorities say a 66-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a car while crossing a street in western New York.

It happened in Dunkirk just after 8 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the victim was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash happened under rainy and low-visibility conditions.

Authorities didn't immediately identify the man.

The crash remains under investigation.
