WINNESHIEK COUNTY, IA : Deadly crash reported in Winneshiek County involving tractor and train on Monday, 7th October 2024

A deadly crash took place on Monday afternoon in Winneshiek County involving a tractor hauling a grain bin and a train.

The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Carl Kuhn of Fort Atkinson.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office received a report of the accident around 2:32 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 24 and 128th Street between Fort Atkinson and Jackson Junction.

The sheriff's office said that the tractor entered the railroad tracks, and the train conductor applied the brakes, but collided with the tractor at 30 miles per hour. Kuhn was ejected from the front windshield and died at the scene.
