Erie,PA : Two men injured in North East crash on May,Monday 21th 2018

Two men were injured and transported to the hospital after a traffic crash in the 10300 block of East Lake Road in North East Township Monday night.

The accident occurred just before 7:40 p.m. when a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis heading westbound drifted into oncoming traffic and struck a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback. The accident occurred just west of Cemetery Road.

The cars’ driver’s sides collided, sending the Barracuda Fastback off the side of the roadway and into grape vineyards. The Grand Marquis continued westbound for about 100 yards, until it went off the side of the roadway, struck a concrete cap of a water well and came to a rest.

The driver of the Grand Marquis, an 18-year-old male, told Pennsylvania State Police that he suffered a medical condition that caused him to lose consciousness. The Grand Marquis had heavy front-end damage.

The Barracuda Fastback suffered heavy damage to the driver’s side. The car’s door was crushed.

Both men were conscious when paramedics arrived at the scene, according to State Police.

Both drivers were sent to UPMC Hamot Hospital. The extent of their injuries was not available Monday night.

The driver of the Barracuda Fastback, a Ripley, New York man, bought the vintage car three days ago and was out for his first ride, Sharon Foster of Westfield, New York said.

Foster and her husband restored the vehicle. They sold it Saturday after owning it for 11 years.

Foster arrived at the scene of Monday’s accident after receiving a call from the driver of the Barracuda Fastback. They had attended an event with other classic car owners on Erie’s bayfront earlier in the evening.

“I can’t believe it,” Foster said. “He was so excited tonight to be out with other people. He didn’t want the car to be out in the rain, so he headed back home. And then this. It’s unbelievable.”
