A Minnesota woman was killed and two others injured in a head-on collision on SR 89A Wednesday morning.
Two Hyundai vehicles were involved during the morning accident near the scenic viewpoint and Sedona Wastewater plant at milepost 364.
A red SUV was northbound on the highway, when it drifted, first, into the center median, became airborne and then crashed head-on into a silver sedan in the southbound lanes of the highway.
The deceased woman was the driver of the silver sedan, Mary Meyer, 53, of Shoreview, Minnesota. Her daughter, who was a passenger, and the driver of the northbound vehicle were flown by medical helicopter to Flagstaff Medical Center.
Because of the fatality and subsequent investigation, the Department of Public safety closed the highway for for a lengthy period, extending through much of the morning for the southbound lane. Motorists were initially detoured onto Interstate 17.
The Sedona Fire District, assisted by Verde Valley Fire handled the fatality accident.
