Pontiac, MI : Woman, 53, dies in rear-end crash in Bloomfield Township on Tuesday, January 24th 2017
A 53-year-old motorist is dead following a fatal rear-end crash on a busy roadway Tuesday night in Bloomfield Township.
Police have identified the victim as Rhonda Williams of Oakland Township.
Police and fire crews at 9 p.m. were called to the area of eastbound Square Lake Road and Emerson Avenue, near Woodward Avenue, to investigate a serious two-car crash.
Arriving officials learned that a 2014 Maserati driving eastbound on Square Lake Road rear-ended a 2009 Subaru Legacy headed the same way.
The Subaru was pushed off the roadway and into a barrier fence nearby, causing major damage.
The 53-year-old Subaru driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the Maserati, a 43-year-old Bloomfield Hills resident, is in stable condition, officials said.
Authorities are reporting that alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the incident.
The Oakland Press has requested comment from Bloomfield Township police on how fast the opposing driver was going before the incident and whether there will be charges filed.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit at 248-433-7749.
