FREETOWN, MA : New Bedford man seriously injured in Route 140 crash on Sunday, September 24th 2017
A 38-year-old New Bedford man was seriously injured Sunday night when his car left the roadway and crashed in a wooden area off Route 140, state police said.
The unidentified man, who was the sole occupant of a 2008 Nissan Altima, was in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital as of late Monday morning, according to Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.
The car went off the road on Route 140 southbound, south of Exit 8, in Freetown, for unknown reasons about 9 p.m., said Lt. Tom Ryan, a state police spokesman. State police are not releasing the victim’s name.
State Police Trooper Brendan Roper from the Dartmouth barracks responded to the crash, he said.
The operator was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with serious injuries, according to Ryan. The driver was later taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, he said. Freetown Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
The crash is being investigated by the State Police Analysis and Reconstruction Team, the state police crime scene services unit and state police detectives assigned to the DA’s office, he said.
