RACINE, WI : Driver identified in rollover crash on Monday, May 29, 2017
The alleged driver of the vehicle involved in Monday’s police chase, rollover crash and foot pursuit on Erie Street has been identified.
Demond L. Seay, 20, of the 2500 block of Northwestern Avenue, Racine, has been charged with a felony for operating a vehicle fleeing police, eluding an officer and causing damage to property. He also netted a misdemeanor charge for obstructing an officer.
According to the criminal complaint:
As police attempted to pull over Seay’s vehicle Monday afternoon after observing two traffic violations near Geneva and Albert streets, Seay pulled the vehicle over as if he was planning to stop, then sped up to about 50 mph, running through stop signs. Near Yout and Erie streets, Seay’s passenger jumped out of the car and fled on foot.
Seay’s vehicle continued north on Erie, running stop signs and traveling more than 70 mph, when Seay lost control of his vehicle. It became airborne, flipped several times and landed on a tree in a yard in the 3000 block of Erie Street.
As officers approached the vehicle, they saw it was unoccupied. Seay was found later in a back bedroom of a residence near the crash, having told the residence’s owners that he had been hurt in a car accident. However, when police located him, he allegedly denied being in a vehicle that crashed and provided an ID, later stating he was the backseat passenger.
