Lynchburg, VA : One person was injured in a two-vehicle wreck on Wednesday, August 30, 2017

One person was injured in a two-vehicle wreck that briefly closed Langhorne Road on Wednesday afternoon.

A red Nissan Royal was headed northeast on Langhorne Road when it was hit on its passenger side by a silver Nissan Altima exiting E. C. Glass High School at the intersection of Langhorne Road and Miller Drive.

The Altima was attempting to take a left turn after being waved through by another driver, Lynchburg Police Officer A. Lucy said.

This isn’t a common intersection for crashes, Lucy said.

“This is the third wreck I’ve worked in two weeks where traffic was stopped, there was a gap, they were waved across, [and they] didn’t check the extra lane,” he said. “... The biggest lesson here is that you can’t trust people that are waving you across; always check the second lane.”

The driver of the Royal was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with possible minor injuries, Lucy said.

The driver of the Altima was charged with failure to yield, Lucy said.

The driver and passenger in the Altima were uninjured. The driver, a minor, said the only thing he hurt were his fingers.

Lynchburg Fire Capt. D. Jackson said the call came in at about 4:08 p.m., with the department arriving shortly after.

The road was closed as soon as the department arrived, he said, and was reopen as of 4:45 p.m.

The Lynchburg Fire Department and Lynchburg Police Department responded to the scene.
