Anne Arundel County police said excessive speed and damp road conditions appear to be have contributed to a crash early Tuesday morning in Glen Burnie that sent five teenagers to area hospitals.
Police said a red 2006 Pontiac G6 was traveling south on Solley Road shortly after midnight when the car began to slide, left the road and struck a tree near Chestnut Springs Lane.
When police and firefighters arrived, they found the teens trapped inside the vehicle.
The teens were removed from the car within 25 minutes, said county fire department Capt. Russ Davies.
The 16-year-old Pasadena boy who was driving the car was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious injuries, police said.
The front passenger, a 17-year-old boy from Pasadena, was transported to John's Hopkins Childrens Center in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Three passengers in the back seat – two 15-year-old girls and a 15-year-old boy, all from Pasadena – were transported to Shock Trauma, police said. Two of the back seat passenger sustained critical injuries, police said, while the other back seat passenger sustained serious injuries.
Only the driver and front seat passenger were wearing seat belts, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Solley Road has been the scene of a number of serious crashes over the years, including one near Chestnut Springs Lane in December that killed a 21-year-old woman.
