Town of Newton, WI : School bus driver seriously injured in a collision with a dump truck in Manitowoc County on Monday, March 21, 2016

A school bus driver was hospitalized after a crash with a waste-hauling truck.

Manitowoc County sheriff's officials say the crash happened just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Clover Road and Hwy. CR in the Town of Newton, just south of the City of Manitowoc. According to investigators, the bus was headed west when it hit the truck, which was headed south.

The school bus is owned by Brandt Buses. The truck is owned by Blue Water Services.

The bus driver was taken to the hospital with what sheriff's officials called "incapacitating" injuries. There were six children on the bus; they were released to their parents at the scene. Some reported minor injuries.

A utility pole was knocked over in the crash. It caused some downed wires and a power outage in the Newton area.

The intersection is closed while the crash is being inevstigated.
