Five people were injured Tuesday morning when a driver lost control of his SUV on U.S. Highway 395 and struck two other cars traveling in the opposite direction.
James P. Barrow, 22, of Spokane was driving north on the highway when he lost control about 8:45 a.m. six miles north of the city, the Washington State Patrol reported.
His Mitsubishi Montero struck a pickup truck driven by Teah M. Chadderdown, 45, of Colville, and another SUV driven by Rheva C. Larson, 33, of Spokane.
All three vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. All three drivers were injured but not hospitalized.
Barrow’s passengers, Victoria Pentlarge, 63, and Ruth P. Barrow, 18, both of Athens, Georgia, were taken by ambulance to Providence Holy Family Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said their conditions were being evaluated.
State troopers said Barrow was driving too fast in winter conditions. He was charged with second-degree negligent driving.
