LAPEER COUNTY, MI : Police ID man killed in head-on crash with tree in Lapeer County on Sunday, April 2, 2017
A 60-year-old Waterford man died after his vehicle struck a tree head-on over the weekend in Lapeer County's Oregon Township.
Lapeer County Sheriff's deputies responded at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 2, to Oregon Road, around four-tenths of a mile east of Hayes Road, and found Ralph Pantke inside the vehicle.
The 1992 GMC Yukon Pantke was driving crossed over the center line on Oregon Road, drove through the westbound lane of traffic, and went off the north side of the road where it continued moving for approximately 50 feet in a ditch before hitting the tree.There was no one else inside the Yukon at the time of the crash. Lapeer County fire and rescue extracted the driver from the vehicle. Pantke had on a seat belt, but the Yukon was not equipped with airbags.
A completed autospy found no apparent medical issues, said Detective Sgt. Jason Parks of the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office. The cause of death has been determined as trauma directly related to the crash.
A cause of the crash has not been released.
Lapeer County Ambulance Service assisted police and fire at the scene.
