Raritan, NJ : Serious accident closes Route 202 in Somerset County on Monday, 12th September 2016
A pair of accidents closed Route 202 on Monday afternoon, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The first accident, reported shortly before 2:30 p.m., was near 1st Avenue and involved downed power lines. As of 5:30 p.m., Route 202 had reopened, but the right lane and shoulder remained closed between Ortho Drive and 1st Avenue. There are delays of about 10 minutes in the area.
Traffic had been detoured in the area, with 3 miles delays in both directions.
According to PSE&G, some 875 customers in the area are without power, with service expected to be restored by 7:45 p.m.
Initial reports are that the first accident on northbound Route 202 involved multiple vehicles, with one crashing into a pole. There was also a report of a second accident on southbound Route 202 at Vones Lane involving several vehicles.
As of 5:30 p.m., southbound traffic is slow from Bridgewater Commons in Bridgewater Township and northbound traffic is slow from Old York Road in Branchburg. There are also delays on Route 28 and 22 in the area, as well as on Old York Road.
