Primos, PA : Two youths seriously hurt in Brookhaven accident Thursday night, August 18, 2016

Two youths sustained serious facial injuries after the car in which they were riding Thursday night cracked a pole in the 300 block of West Brookhaven Road a quarter-mile from the driver’s home, borough police said.

A 13-year-old from Philadelphia, who was a passenger in the car, suffered severe facial injuries, according to police.

Police said an 18-year-old borough youth was driving the vehicle when it lost control a few minutes before 9 p.m., crossed the highway and hit the pole, causing it to crack. Both the driver and the passenger were taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment.

Police said their injuries were related to the impact, not the pole cracking.

Their condition was not known Friday, although they are not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.

According to police, the 13-year-old’s brother was driving in the car behind them although they don’t know if there was a correlation.

Police attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed and inexperience as the 18-year-old driver was operating the car with solely a permit at the time of the accident.

They said the driver will be cited as a result.

Police did not know if the occupants of the car were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
