BOSSIER CITY, LA : Old Minden Road closed due to crash on Monday, February 20th 2017

Old Minden Road between Northgate Road and East Texas street is closed after a driver struck a utility pole in his SUV.

It happened just before 1 p.m. at the intersection Industrial Drive and Old Minden Road, according to Bossier City Police Department's Public Information Officer Mark Natale.

Witnesses told police that a Ford Explorer was driving westbound on Industrial Drive when it crossed the eastbound lane of traffic, hitting the pole and breaking it in half.

The pole hit by the driver was a pole supported an 80 ft. utility pole, according to AEP/SWEPCO spokesman Scott McCloud.

The driver of the SUV was not injured and refused to be taken to a hospital, according to Natale.

Power lines are hanging dangerously low due to the crash across Minden Road. Crews on scene are working to replace the broken utility pole.

Only 21 customers are without power as of 3:20 p.m, McCloud said. Their power is expected to come back on by 4 p.m.

SWEPCO crews told police it could take 12 hours to replace the pole.
