Wasilla, AK : 18-year-old injured after dirtbike, SUV crash on Red Birch Drive and Overby Street on Tuesday night, April 7, 2015
A Wasilla man was medevaced to Anchorage Tuesday night, after Alaska State Troopers say his dirt bike collided with a sport-utility vehicle at an intersection in the Mat-Su Valley town.
According to a Wednesday AST dispatch on the incident, troopers responded just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to the crash in which 18-year-old Gunar L. Cruikshank was injured, at Red Birch Drive’s intersection with Overby Street. A 1997 Ford Explorer driven by 16-year-old Ryan Hanson had driven into the intersection from a stop sign.
“A 2003 Honda CR80 off road dirt bike driven by (Cruikshank) was traveling west on Overby,” troopers wrote. “The Honda collided with the left rear passenger-side door of the Ford Explorer. Cruikshank was transported by LifeMed helicopter to Providence Alaska Medical Center with serious injury.”
Troopers said Cruikshank was wearing a helmet in the collision. Providence staff said he was in fair condition Wednesday morning.
Each of the vehicles involved sustained about $500 in damage in the crash, which remains under investigation.
