Ocala, FL : Woman involved in crash on April, friday 28th 2017
A woman who twice ran from law enforcement officials after her car slammed into the back of another vehicle was captured and charged with hit and run, driving on a suspended license, resisting arrest without violence and careless driving.
Ocala Police officers found Dawn Haas at her residence and took to the Marion County Jail.Florida Highway Patrol troopers said they were called to State Road 200 and Southwest 95th Circle around 4:15 p.m. Friday in reference to a crash. At the location, troopers were told that Haas was driving a Chevy in the outside eastbound lane of SR 200 behind a Hyundai SUV. Officials said the Chevy ran into the back of the SUV, forcing the vehicle off the road and onto the median where it stopped. The Chevy overturned on its roof in the outside eastbound lane, troopers said.
Motorists passing by stopped and helped Haas out of the Chevy. They left and went to the SUV to check on the woman driver. When they went to assist the other driver, Haas ran.
Sheriff’s deputies were called and searching the area, found Haas in Walmart and brought her back to where the crash occurred. There, Haas said she was injured and she was transported to West Marion Community Hospital for treatment. At the hospital, Haas ran again and authorities were notified.
Local court records show Haas has been found guilty of several traffic offenses to including leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and careless driving.
