Spartanburg, South Carolina
A North Carolina man is dead after a one-car crash on Interstate 85 near Blacksburg early Saturday.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said Samuel Wayne Johnson, 31, of Bladenboro, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred at 4:15 a.m. in the northbound lane near the on-ramp at mile marker 102.
Fowler said the driver was in a Toyota SUV that went off the right side of the road and into a wooded area, where it overturned and caught fire.
Johnson, who was partially ejected, was trapped under the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, Fowler said. His family identified him by tattoos on his body, Fowler added.
Fowler said autopsy results are pending.
