MATTOON, IL : 1 injured after two vehicle crash on Interstate 57 between Mattoon and Arcola on Sunday, 15th September 2024

The driver of a pickup truck sustained life-threatening injuries after they rear-ended a semi-truck stopped on the shoulder, Illinois State Police said.

This happened on Interstate 57 southbound near the Arcola exit.

Traffic was diverted at the Arcola exit to U.S. Route 45.

There were cans of paint in the bed of the truck that opened during the crash, so an environmental cleanup crew was called out to handle the spill.

The road was closed until just after 4 a.m. Sunday.
