Columbia, MD :Trooper Was Hit While Making Traffic Stop on I-95 on Wednesday, July 8th 2015
A crash on Interstate 95 that closed the highway to southbound traffic near Columbia Wednesday afternoon involved a state trooper, according to Maryland State Police.The trooper was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment, police reported.He was hit north of the exit for MD 32 while making a traffic stop and suffered injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, according to WJLA.The vehicle that hit him also hit the parked car he had stopped, according to WUSA9, which reported both drivers were injured and taken to Howard County General Hospital for treatment.I-95 will be closed between MD 175 and 32 for the afternoon, according to the State Highway Administration, which provided this information about alternate routes:Due to the crash on southbound I-95 between MD 175 and MD 32, mainline I-95 south will remain closed through the afternoon rush hour. At this time, SHA is assisting police with traffic control and diverting traffic onto MD 175 where motorists can either head west to US 29 or east to US 1. Motorist traveling from Washington D.C. can opt for US 50 to northbound I-97 to I-695 to I-95 or MD 295. Note, tractor trailers are not permitted on MD 295.
