INDIANAPOLIS, IN Wrong-way driver killed in head-on crash on Interstate 65 on Sunday, 7th February 2021
A 29-year-old from Greenwood was killed Sunday after driving the wrong way on Interstate 65 and crashing head-on into a vehicle, according to state police.
Indiana State Police troopers were called to investigate the report of a wrong-way driver around 1:10 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near Southport Road, ISP Sgt. John Perrine said in a press release. While responding, troopers were notified of a serious crash in the area.
After a preliminary investigation, crash investigators believe Christopher Kattman was driving the wrong way and struck an SUV, Perrine said. Two other vehicles were struck after the initial crash.
Kattman died at the scene and multiple people were taken to a local hospital, one by a medical helicopter, Perrine said.
Investigators are waiting for the results of toxicology tests to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
