Rural Retreat, VA : Wythe man injured in collision with tractor on Tuesday morning, March 8, 2016
A 31-year-old Cedar Springs Road resident was airlifted to a Tennessee hospital on Tuesday morning after he rear-ended a tractor pulling a wagon.
According to Chief Deputy Charles Foster of the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, William Travis Mutter sustained head trauma following the 6:50 a.m. accident. He was transported by the Rural Retreat Emergency Services to its headquarters where a helicopter landing zone had been cleared by the Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Department.
Foster said Mutter was operating a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup on Cedar Springs Road, east of Pine Glade Road. Mutter struck the rear of a wagon being pulled by a 1998 John Deere tractor, operated by 53-year-old Jimmy Davidson of Rural Retreat, the chief deputy said.
Davidson was not injured.
Foster estimated damage to Mutter’s vehicle at $8,000 and $8,000 to Davidson’s tractor and wagon.
No charges have been placed at this time, the chief deputy said. The crash remains under investigation.
