Hamlin, NY : Man Dies After Driving Vehicle Into 14-Foot Deep Pond on Saturday night, December 20, 2014
Authorities say alcohol likely played a role in the death of a western New York man who drove his vehicle into a pond.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office tells local media that 38-year-old Mariano Solis of Albion crashed his sport utility vehicle into a pond late Saturday night in the town of Hamlin, on Lake Ontario 15 miles northwest of Rochester.
Deputies say Solis had been drinking during that day with friends and family when he drove his SUV down a driveway, across a road and over a lawn before hitting the 14-foot-deep water.
A bystander tried to rescue him but was unsuccessful. Emergency crews pulled Solis from the submerged vehicle.
He was taken to the hospital in Brockport, where he was pronounced dead.
