Zanesville, OH : Columbus woman killed in tractor-trailer struck her vehicle on Tuesday in Interstate 70 in Muskingum County on Tuesday October 11 2016

A Columbus woman was killed Tuesday morning when a steel coil that was ejected from an overturned tractor-trailer struck her vehicle while she was traveling on Interstate 70 in Muskingum County.

Raliat M. Ikharo, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident near mile post 149 west of Zanesville.

The accident closed I-70 for several hours as crews cleared the roadway and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers investigated the crash that was reported at 6:05 a.m.

The tractor-trailer driver, Scott M. Hendershot, 47, of St. Clairsville, reportedly suffered minor injuries but refused to be transported to the hospital.

According to the highway patrol, a 2015 Mack truck operated by Hendershot was westbound on I-70 pulling a trailer loaded with the steel coil when the driver fell asleep.

The tractor-trailer entered the median between the eastbound and westbound lanes and overturned, ejecting the steel coil onto the roadway.

The steel coil then struck the Ikharo vehicle, a 2011 Toyota Corolla. The Corolla then struck the guardrail.

The interstate was closed for several hours.

Both drivers were wearing safety belts.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office, National Trail Fire Department, Falls Township Fire Department, Community Ambulance and the Ohio Department of Transportation also assisted at the scene.
