Memphis, TN : 11-year-old injured in hit-and-run crash on Wednesday night, October 12, 2016

An 11-year-old was injured in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night.

Around 9 p.m. Wednesday, the child was walking across Faronia Road at the intersection of Faronia and Wesley Drive when she was hit by a car. The driver of the car did not stop to help after the crash, according to police.

The 11-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She remains in the hospital at last check.

Neighbors said the area where the child was hit was filled with small children playing near the road. It's a road where cars often speed.

"These little kids around here, they play around here a lot," Nathaniel Richardson said. "Everybody should watch out for these little kids. Whoever hit that little kid and ran off, that was a coward move."

According to Memphis Police Department, the accident happened hear a hospital when the child was crossing Faronia Road.

"That's just terrible," Tina said. "That's really bad and you know the people in the community, they need to slow down on these streets."

As investigators work to piece together what happened, neighbors pray the person responsible will come forward on this crime.

"If you did something wrong, be a man or a woman and admit to it," Marquette Dockery said. "Just face the consequences, because you're going to have the face the consequences."
