Charlotte, NC : Mother tosses beer cans after crashing car with daughter inside on Tuesday, November 11, 2014

Tonya James was arrested for her involvement in a Tuesday night crash on Pecan Avenue. Police say James and her 7-year-old daughter were in a vehicle that hit a car on Pecan. James then ran a red light before crashing into a power pole on 7th Street. Witnesses say they saw James trying to get rid of beer cans after the crash by tossing the cans into a trash can near the scene. James was charged with hit and run, misdemeanor child abuse for allowing physical injury to be inflicted, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while impaired. Officials say James and her daughter were transported to Carolinas Medical Center. Her daughter was treated for minor injuries and has since been released.
