Mahomet,IL : I-74 crash triggered by rear-ending on September, thursday 7th 2017
Three people were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon following a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 74 that backed up traffic for more than an hour.
The accident happened at 4:11 p.m. in the westbound lanes, just west of the Prairieview Road exit, according to Illinois State Police.
A van driven by Bradley Southern, 36, of Normal, failed to slow down for another van in front of it that was in slow-moving traffic.
Southern then hit the rear end of that van, driven by Johnathan Juergens, 32, of East Peoria, sending it into a truck ahead of it.
The truck, driven by Lee William Morrow, 27, of Central City, Iowa, skidded off the road. Morrow had to be cut out of the truck, a process that took about 45 minutes.
All three drivers were weaing seat belts.
Southern was issued a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
