Two Olentangy Liberty High School students were killed in a car crash earlier today, July 17, in Berlin Township.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and other local safety agencies responded shortly before 11:15 a.m. to the report of a crash on Africa Road near its intersection with Summerwood Crossing in Berlin Township.
According to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Gavin D. Schlotterbeck, 17, of Powell was driving a Toyota Camry northbound on Africa Road when he left the east side of the road, overcorrected and crossed into the southbound lane. A southbound Jeep Wrangler driven by a 19-year-old woman struck the passenger’s side of the Camry, according to the release.
Officials pronounced Schlotterbeck and his passenger, Hunter D. McClelland, 17, of Powell, dead at the scene, according to the highway patrol.
In a statement, Olentangy Superintendent Mark Raiff confirmed Schlotterbeck and McClelland were students at Liberty High School.
