Detroit Lakes, MN : Vergas woman injured in head-on crash at Highway 59 and Becker County Road 6 on Wednesday, May 18, 2016

A Vergas woman was injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash at Highway 59 and Becker County Road 6.

Miriam B. Wippich-Smith, 46 , of Vergas suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol.

She was wearing a seat belt and the airbag deployed. She was taken to Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.

The other driver, Leroy V. Frost Jr, 72, of Kramer, N.D. suffered no apparent injury. He was also wearing a seat belt.

Wippich-Smith was southbound on Highway 59 in a 2002 Ford Focus.

Frost was northbound, in the left turn lane at Becker County Road 6, driving a 2008 Hummer H2.

The H2 and Focus both went through the intersection, resulting in a head-on collision. The Focus was totaled. The Hummer sustained moderate damage.

The crash was reported at 6:15 p.m. on dry two-lane pavement.

The Becker County Sheriff’s Office and the Detroit Lakes Police Department assisted at the scene.
